Outdoor Fitness with Tina Vindum

Does your doctor exercise?

I gravitate towards health professionals who are more like me. I like to know that my health advisors know the value I place on being able to run, ski, skate, hike, bike and feel balanced underfoot.

My dermatologist doles out advice about the importance of staying out of the sun and wearing sunscreen (his skin looks as smooth as a baby’s behind), my gynocologist asks me about my exercise routine (she exercises daily), and my general practitioner asks me my relationships (he’s been married for 20 years), and my podiatrist runs ultra marathons all over the planet. Does this make a difference to me? It does. I feel it’s important to gravitate and surround myself with positive people, living healthy and vibrant lives.

I thought I was alone in all of this, however, it’s become apparent that I am not. I read an interesting article by Gina Kolata in the New York Times over the weekend called, “But First, Doctor, What Was Your Marathon Time? The article talks about how active doctors are less likely to sideline those of us with ailments and injuries, and more willing to sleuth it out and help us find a way to get healthy and back on the fitness track doing our favorite activities.
